    • TERRACE BAY HAVEN

TERRACE BAY "Gem of the North Shore"

Located about two miles from the town of Terrace Bay, the docking facilities at the mouth of the Aguasabon River can accommodate boats with a draft of three feet or less and there is a ramp for launching boats up to 22 feet in length.

Named for a series of glacial sand and gravel deposits that rise more than 100 m (325 ft) from the Lake Superior shoreline, Terrace Bay offers a wide range of shopping, services and accommodations in its downtown area. The recreation complex offers squash, racquetball and tennis courts, a bowling alley, swimming pool, weightroom and sauna. A path behind the adjacent information centre leads to an observation area at the top of the hill.

The lakeside golf club provides a picturesque setting for dinner or a round of golf. Swim and soak up the sun on the sandy beach at the mouth of the Aguasabon River or stretch your legs and explore the unspoiled wilderness of the Canadian Shield. Follow the trail from Aguasabon Beach to the observation deck high on a clifftop for a breathtaking view of the roaring 100-foot falls. The scenic 45 km (28 mi) Casque Isles Hiking Trail hugs the rugged coastline from Terrace Bay to Rossport. Pictographs and the remnants of an old mining camp provide a glimpse into the past.

If you wish to experience the Township of Terrace Bay but require more depth than the mouth of the river offers, you can anchor on the eastern side of Terrace Bay in the protection of the small islands.

East of Terrace Bay an interesting side trip into Jackfish Bay will give you a mariner's eye view of the great, "Jackfish Curve", an engineering wonder when built in the late 1800's.
